Background
Dr. Belcon is currently pursing a PhD in Public Health Epidemiology at Florida International University. He previously completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry (magna cum laude) and a Masters of Science Degree in Health Science (Health Research Methodology) at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from FIU with a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, including graduate certificates in both Epidemiology and Environmental Health. A Florida licensed and practicing clinician, Dr. Belcon also holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Howard University, Washington, DC and completed postgraduate training and specialty qualifications, in Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, Clinical Immunology and Allergy.
Dr. Belcon is currently Chief of Staff at the Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, Fort Pierce, Florida where he previously served as Chief of the Department of Medicine (2000-2005), Secretary of the Medical Staff and President of the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee (2006-2007). He currently sits on the hospital Board of Trustees. He has served on many other hospital committees in various capacities, with Chairmanship of the Credentials and Re-Credential Committees, Vice Chairman of the Quality Coordination Council, member of the Infection Control and Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committees, as well as the Bylaws and Disaster Committees.
Research
Dr. Belcon has published health-related articles in many peer-reviewed medical journals and is currently engaged in cancer health disparity research at FIU. |
