Background
Mr. Caban-Martinez is currently a second-year doctoral (PhD) epidemiology student in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Florida International University Stempel School of Public Health and a third-year osteopathic medical student (DO) at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. His career goals include training as a physician-scientist grounded in sound scientific framework and the art of clinical practice in Family Medicine.
As a research associate to the Florida International University Health Disparities Research Group (HDRG), Mr. Caban-Martinez will assist the Investigators of the HDRG with the initiation of research projects and studies, in the creation of manuscripts, and preparing presentations and study documentation from the group’s research projects.
Research
Mr. Caban-Martinez’s research interests, under the mentorship of Dr. Nasar Ahmed, include elucidating cancer disparities among minority populations. While racial/ethnic disparities in cancer have received significant attention, especially with regard to treatment, the focus of Mr. Caban-Martinez’s work is on preventable cancer screening methods among US minority groups. Mr. Caban-Martinez’s previous research work was in the field of chronic disease and occupational epidemiology. |
